quelle: http://text.hmmm.co.za/2009/06/take-me-im-yours.htmlThere has been some interesting noise on the web recently about creative people giving away work for free, to earn exposure.
Now don't get me wrong, in some small cases, this approach might work but on the whole, IT'S BLOODY STUPID!
The general consensus is that creative people often don't have much of a clue when it comes to the business side. If they did, we wouldn't be in the situation we are right now where hundreds of companies come with their cap in their hand and beg to use our creative content for nothing.
Oh, they'll throw in some exposure for you as an artist, but that's about it.
If there was one thing I learned whilst working for Investment bank, besides what stops a monster of a hangover and how to expense lap dancing clubs with the client, it's that nothing in this world is really for free.
You are an idiot if you think that the exposure you will gain will result in revenue. The company/client really wants you to think this, especially during this rather nasty economic downturn, as it makes their bottom line look better and they get the required content for hardly any investment.
You spend time doing what you do, it's not something everyone has the ability to do, do you really want to give it away for free?
Think about that last statement for a moment.
I don't visit the dentist and pitch him an idea where he polishes my teeth and I then give him free exposure. I sure as hell don't ask the garage to fix my car in return for a blog entry, so why do we, as a creative community, fall for one of the oldest business tricks in the book: getting stuff for free without really trying that hard?
Ich möchte diesen Text unkommentiert stehen lassen und wünsche mir das wir darüber eine angeregte sachliche Diskusion führen werden.
